I’ve walked and crocheted but not knit… yet😉. I’ve knit or crocheted while reading since I was small. My grandsons used to tell their friends that Nanny could knit, red and watch telly. They were very impressed that I did that. I would add not full on watching just occasional glances if it was a program I liked.

Yay!! That sounds awesome indeed! I agree, when I watch TV and knit, it's only occasional glances. But reading or listening would get more a bit more attention. It's fun to think about how these things work.

This is brilliant. I have only recently started reading and knitting (I find this much easier on a kindle) and it’s been a revelation for me. The thought of knitting and walking whilst listening to an audiobook is making me very excited to try it out!

Kindle is amazing that you just have to touch instead of physically turning the pages. Also there used to be the challenge of keeping physical books steady and upright in a book stand. But audiobook+knit+walk is absolutely the best pamper we can give ourselves everyday, IMO.🥰 Keep us posted on how it goes for you!

Last year, I did four weeks of parkknit - that is, walked the course at parkrun whilst knitting 🤣 (I'll post some proof in a note!)

Lisa, thank you so much for sharing those pictures. So happy to find a fellow walker/knitter. 😂😃

I saw your pictures of knitting while walking Lisa! You look to be fully enjoying yourself. You and Kavitha make me want to find a place where I can do that, too! 🤗

Yay, Sandy!!! It would be wonderful to have you join the club. 🥰🤞I would even say start pacing in your backyard if possible and build from there.

We knitters need all of the encouragement we can get, to get up and move. This said, walking while knitting is not my strong suit. I can crochet and walk more easily but I haven't made a habit of it. I would have to do it in the house as we do not have sidewalks where I live. ☹ The upside is that I live in a lovely place to take walks in natural surroundings. And your post has encouraged me to take more breaks and enjoy our beautiful spring! 🥰

I am sorry, I should have read this one before suggesting backyard walking in the previous comment. Sounds wonderful, Sandy. Spring is a great motivation to get out and about. I would love to see text/pic updates from you on how things are going. If there are more of us, may be we could start a conversation thread of some kind for folks to check in. 🤔 Why walk alone when we can walk in virtual groups? 😃

That is a thought. I think I may try knitting and walking at one of the local shopping malls in the morning. Perhaps inside or outside. Will let you know how that goes. 😊

I enjoy walking and knitting. It’s fun and I think it’s good for your brain. Plus, people who see me think it’s impressive😂

A would add, a flat, even surface for walking is helpful for those who want to give it a go. I love the tuberose mitts.

I’m so clumsy I worry I’ll face plant but worse, ruin my knitting! lol, Cathy uses one of those wrist holders for her yarn. Seems quite clever!

Oh, Alexa you're not! You might just want to start small inside the house or in your backyard to begin with. Also, really really plain and small knitting like a hat or plain vanilla sock.

P.S. A word about wrist holder - Carson Demers advises against it but advocates backpack. Crossbody is also ok. I did a reel with knitting from my backpack long ago. 🫣 I'll try to find that.

P.P.S. I mentioned walk+knit to Ruth, the other day at Fillory and she seemed very inspired. She is going to try too. 🤫

Great! We should start a walk + knit group! KAL + Walk! You could find us one of your simple patterns and show us the way!!!!!! OMG love this idea!!!!!

Glad I didn’t buy that wrist holder! I love back packs! Carson is fab! Would love to see that reel!

Late to the party. I walk and crochet, I walk while I read, but never do I knit while walking :)

I can 't knit while reading too. While reading on a kindle I can crochet but not knit. I think it is a mental block for me and I am unable to do justice to both reading and my knitting :)

You are not late at all. I agree. Sometimes we develop mental block around certain things for no particular reason and then be completely surprised when we accidentally overcome it too. :))

I have never tried walking and knitting and you have inspired me to give it a shot. I listen to audio books as I knit, specially for stockinette, it makes things easier. In the hills of North India, I have often seen women knitting as they walk, specially the tribal women from the upper hills who sell socks and gloves with very pretty colorwork patterns. Will definitely try this.

I've never tried walking and knitting, you've inspired me to give it a go. Now that the tracks along the river where I walk have been restored since the floods, this might proove easier :) I love the color of the yarn in your new shawl design.

Jodie that sounds like the right time to start. It would be lovely to have updates from your corner of the world which is so gorgeous. 😍 Oh, thank you so much. It's Malabrigo again. The colorway is called "Tin soldier" and I just instantly loved it.

Hmmm...love the idea, but will have to sneak out when the dog is distracted by something or someone else! I do take knitting or crochet everywhere, so am able to combine with those bits of found time while waiting....

And I can knit in the choir stall during the sermon, as long as it's not the Sunday our gracious Bishop Gretchen visits!

Favorite recent books: Covenant of Water, by Abraham Verghese; Brilliant Life of Eudora Honeysett by Annie Lyons; The Huntsman's Tale, by Anne Swinfin.

Nan, that sounds great. You're almost there, hope things work out better for you to add walk&knit to your routine. Knitting in the choir stall - would that mean singing and knitting? Now that 's new for me! 😍 Thanks for all the recommendations. Duly added to my queue. 😃
