Isn't it confounding how we can be totally in love with a new pattern and yarn, and then fall totally out of love and wish to forget the project all together!?!? We humans are a mystery! LOL It has taken a while for me to come to terms with knitting in this regard. I love knitting but I see now that there is an appetite involved. A very finicky appetite. As well as a budget of both time and money. Knowing this helps me to go a little more cautiously into starting a new project. Unlike the current fad of having oodles of items on knitting needles at the same time, I try to stick to one piece until it is finished. I can hear the groaning! LOL But it is a way of getting out of the problem of having to face down and cower from the many projects that are not yet finished. To appease the need to just do some knitting that comes over all lovers of knitting, I grab some needles and a ball of yarn and try some stitch or other that I have never done before or practice a bit of fair isle or some style of knitting. That can usually get me through a bit of knitting fever.

Lol!! "Finicky appetite" & "Knitting fever" - well diagnosed!! I have tried hard to have just one project, but it felt suffocating. So I try to rotate among 2-3 main projects (and a few fantasy projects in my mind). Your idea of practicing something new for a bit sounds perfect indeed. Try a stitch to scratch the itch I guess? 😄

Try a stitch to scratch the itch! Perfect summing up of how to cure knitting fever. 😄

Lessons in Chemistry is a fab book

I am determined to finish both my knitting projects (2 pairs of socks) before I cast on the next!! I also have a scrappy crochet blanket on the go, but I’m not in a rush to finish that as it’s easy crafting when you just want something easy to relax with x

Way to go Niki! I am trying the same - to give loads of attention to one or two projects at a time. Scrappy crochet blanket sounds soothing. I am loving the book too. 😍

Yes sometimes the middle is a slog. I’m working on narrowing my wip pile to a BAP and one other project. I have a shawl, a pair of fingerless mitts, and three pairs of socks to finish before this happens. I’m focusing on the shawl and the mitts first. Once I finish the three pairs of socks, I’m tackling learning TAAT socks. I tell myself that every row gets me closer to the finish.

I love that. Every row does get us closer to the finish, indeed. And I love that you have a "learning" project in your mix.

I am great at starting projects, but I have finished maybe a handful in my entire time knitting/crocheting/cross stitching. About 65% of the things I have finished have been for other people, most of whom paid for the items, thanks to hustle culture telling me I needed to take commissions with my new skills! ☠️

Exactly! It is doing the craft for its own sake, that takes a lot more convincing.

Not me casting on a new project yesterday to bring the grand total on my needles to 4! (Oops...)

I'm guilty of that too. Just one project, doesn't seem to be a solution anyways. 😅

Your sock design is lovely Kavitha. I'm really interested to hear what works for you on how to combat the "middle part" or the boring bits as you say. I find I need to reconnect with patience during those times of knitting endless rows of "same same". So glad you enjoyed Fiber Friday this week. Thank you for including it here. My heart is full and I'm so grateful. x P.S I'd love to know what you think of Lessons in Chemistry. It's on my list.

Thank you so much Jodie. I hope I can share a few things that are useful or at least good to think about. Like you say, patience is key. Lessons in Chemistry is going well so far, in general. I must say I picked it up because Chemistry was my favorite in school. 😬 I will share my thoughts when I reach a bit farther into the book.

Oh my goodness - definitely! Me too. I just wrote about this this morning as well.... I have a buttonband I need to finish - but it feels difficult! I have a bunch of projects going that I absolutely love.

I hope working on one of the other projects for a while brings back the mojo needed for the button band. Not sure how, but it usually works. 🙃

I have heard that one of our common friends here, who is a designer too, and a lovely one at that, is super organised and does one project at a time. I was so impressed and wanted to try it out like her. But the day I heard and made this resolve, I had two projects on my hooks. So did I finish both of them? I actually abandoned one and started another. ….. and so it goes. I am so good at abandoning 😅

Well this year my goal is to stop abandoning… let’s see.

I hear you Vidya. I think there is not a single solution that will work for all of us and not at all times. Figuring out what works is itself, a work in progress. A.k.a WIP. 😆 Not abandoning seems like a good goal to me.
