It is important to have human connection than AI at least through crafting :) Just couple of days ago,a writer who had submitted an essay got a rejection mail saying that it was AI written. She says that she spent a lot of time researching and writing the piece and it got rejected as the client believed it was the work of AI. Scary times for freelance writers like me. :(

That is such a sad thing to have happened Vidya. Even high school students go through the same. School essays here are being evaluated for plagiarism as well and it is easy to get your essay marked as AI generated! We do live in scary times.

Oh my goodness! How discouraging that must have been for that writer. But one can see how AI vacuums up info and it gets regurgitated in this form and that, to a point when a researcher can hardly know if they are using AI generated stuff. sigh

They use software to detect the levels of plagiarism. While AI is being continuously fed constantly by people all over the world, these detection softwares may not be updated in the same rate. So the results would be very unstable too! You would never know what is acceptable and what is not, as the lines are constantly shifting! This is my current big-picture understanding of the situation.

Great post! So important to keep the humanity in all this. So many here in SV forget the humanity of it all in the relentless pursuit of technological advances. Thank you for this call to take a step back!

Thank you Alexa! Most of the tech starts with a goal to serve us better but they end up being in control rather than us. I'm tired of seeing this repeat over and over.

AI seems scary at times, all said and done it doesn’t have human values. Although it is easy to fall to the lure of instant results and gratification and getting your job done in a jiffy it would be pragmatic to pause and weigh the consequences. Just reading a book on Technology deaddiction and the ways and means being adopted to hook us and keep us hooked and the amount of research going into it is frightening. We are increasingly being pushed into a zone where we will stop thinking and become slaves to AI. It’s time to be more alert and not fall into the trap.

P.S: The book Origin by Dan Brown presented the all encompassing side of AI very effectively.

The actual name of the book is , ‘Distraction deaddiction’ and the Dan Brown book was a very enjoyable read. In fact my entire family read it and we used to have discussions on it.

You raise such valid points. Yes, there is actual research that goes on to keep us hooked and it is the scariest thing to imagine. Every little step to stay alert is worthwhile. Thank you for the book suggestion, I hadn’t come across that one.

Great post Kavitha. I encourage everyone to take your prompts regarding AI seriously. AI will be in our future like it or not. Now is the time to learn how to keep it as a tool and not a master. Demanding ways to opt out of AI whenever desired is key.

Definitely. These things need to be demanded/voiced out. Just refusing to choose the topmost recommendation all the time, is a good place to start, I think.
