While I always love seeing your knitting, the book review was the highlight today. Having recently developed a fairly debilitating chronic illness, mental health has become a top priority for me. Heading to the library site as soon as I finish typing. (I'd also be curious to know what you thought of God of the Woods - I've got it on hold too but I've started seeing very mixed reactions to it)
Oh, thank you so much for letting me know. I actually thought about making the book review as the main essay and leaving the design updates for last as usual. But then I didn’t want to drop a book review out of the blue, you know. :)) Speaking of God of the Woods - such a remarkable story that unfolds slowly, moving slightly back and forth in time. The times and place the story of the story kept me locked in. The characters slowly grew on me and were hard to part with when the story ended.
I hope you are able to make time for doing some things you love and feel better. 💜
Can't wait to see the finished vest, Kavitha! It's looking beautiful. Love the texture.
PS: Funny that "Chalana" was the name of a very famous Portuguese footballer back in the 80's, I think. Left me curious about the origin of the name. 🤓
Thank you Ana. How curious! I picked the word from Kannada (a South Indian language, not my first language but I'm fairly fluent in it) - it means "movement". Which probably is a fair description for a footballer too 😀
That's very curious indeed! I googled the word and in Sanskrit it's suppose to mean "Tricking, deceiving", which is also fair since the footballer was known for his dribbling skills (but Chalana is actually his surname and not a nickname! I googled him too 'cause I'm far from being a football savant... 😜😅).
Oh my, these words can mean so many different things with one original root word. 😅 I was fairly confident of Chalana in three languages to mean something similar to movement. Perhaps I need to rethink if this is the first definition google brings up. But what an interesting discussion, gotta love words. Thank you for bringing it up. 🤗
As I said I immediately put the perfectionist book on hold and though I was something like 6th in line, it popped up for me to checkout late afternoon. I’ve only read a couple of chapters but your review is right on target. Such a powerful read. I can’t wait to give a copy to my extraordinary daughter. Thank you again!
Oh, thank you! So glad it resonates with you. After reading a couple chapters, I too decided to share it with my daughter. She was thrilled with it and we listened together for most of the book and then I gifted her a hardcover copy as well. 😊
The decision to do the folded hem bindoff has paid off, it's looking fab! Thank you for sharing your thoughts on Morgan Schafler's book. It sounds very interesting.
I just did the folded bind off on size 5 of the hood/cowl. It was intimidating at first but after I ran a life line thru the stitches to be picked up it made a beautiful finish inside & out. So I don’t see it as a problem!
Yayyyy!! Well done. That’s a great idea, running a lifeline through it. It is a bit intimidating at first, but after spending some time with it, I see that it becomes ok.
Your Mika Vest is coming along nicely! With your review, I have 'The Perfectionist’s Guide to Losing Control' on hold to read with Libby at the library. My perfectionism comes and goes. With housekeeping, not so much. lol But with attention to details with those things I love .... I may live for that!
Thank you Sandy! Hope to get it done soon. I hear you.. perfectionism seems to come in so many different varieties. :) I hope you enjoy the book. I use Libby too.

That sounds like a good solution, and I like that you keep in mind what the knitting experience would be for the largest sizes!
Also I like the book review part :)
Thank you Lior! Of course, hope everything works out well and becomes a decent finished pattern. :) I am glad you enjoyed the book review.

Thank you so much Jodie! It was a great read indeed.
