Designing Manzil Socks
What went into Manzil Socks, testers projects, CraftDoodling Designs News, etc.
I’ve just released my latest pattern, Manzil Socks onto Ravelry and Payhip. Manzil Socks shares its name and stitch pattern with my earlier pattern Manzil Mitts, also available on Ravelry and Payhip.

To me, a sock project is a piece of comfort knitting to carry around everywhere during the day. I am sure many of you feel similarly enamored with sock knitting here. 🥰
I am always amazed at how much there is to explore in the world of sock knitting. From the time I started my sock journey a few years ago, I have discovered quite a few things that I felt compelled (and bold) enough to bring them together into a knitting pattern. Thus Manzil Socks was born. 🧦
Stitch Pattern Choice
Manzil Socks uses a subtle, understated, but quite elegant twisted cable stitch pattern that I had used in my earlier pattern called Manzil Mitts. 🧤
It is an easy-to-memorize pattern, making the project portable.
The cables can be done without a cable needle.
I like to think of the repeats as a convenient row tracker.
It is both written and charted in the pattern.
Heel
I’ve never looked back at any other type of heel ever since I discovered short row heels. Shadow wrapped short-row heels are my favorites since they can be knit without leaving holes.
But if the heel flap and gusset fits you well, there is no reason to change that. You can still swap out the heel for your favorite one. That is what Gabi D and Naimisha did. 💖
Toe
This is perhaps the most interesting part of Manzil Socks pattern. I have used directional toes, which are shaped differently for the left and right feet. This means that like shoes, left sock is worn on the left foot and right sock on the right. The toe shaping follows the contour of our feet closely and results in a snug fit. I loved the fit and so did the testers when they tried it.
Other Features
The sock is knit cuff-down and the pattern comes with 4 sizes. I have provided stitch distribution for both dpns and magic loop.
Khushbu knit her socks in a cotton blend and I am super thrilled with how hers turned out. 🫶🏽 I have added it to my long list of sock things to try. 🥰
I hope you find Manzil Socks interesting enough to knit a pair for yourself or a loved one. 💖 What are some of the things you are yet to try in sock knitting?
I’m all ears. 👂

Another gorgeous design Kavitha! Directional toes, that makes so much sense. :) I'm off to take a look at the short row heels video you shared. :)
Knitting the Manzil socks was very pleasurable. Just as you stated the cabling served as a great row counter and the socks flew off my needles. I loved the fit of the short row heel and the contoured toe (my first) will be my go to for all my socks in the future. Kudos for a lovely design, Kavitha!
