I’m Kavitha. I write hand knitting patterns under the name CraftDoodling Designs. I love exploring fiber and techniques in my work. I believe learning and sharing with one another is a beautiful way to connect, bond and uplift each other.
As you may recall, I started my newsletter last year around this time. I did so because I was frustrated by how content gets lost on social media without getting the attention it deserves. My newsletter has been a place to share CraftDoodling News, long-form blog posts, and other topics of interest.
While I am happy with the newsletter and your enthusiastic responses, I have always missed the ability to have meaningful group conversations about these topics. We can have conversations in The Knitting People Facebook Group, but that is obviously limited to knitting. And again, the chances of someone seeing a Facebook Group post are subject to algorithms.
Substack seems to offer the best of all these platforms, with opportunities for community building and knowledge sharing. You can recommend other writers, comment, share, and chat. I am still exploring the features and possibilities of the platform. If you are already on Substack, I would love to hear your experience.
I find the content and format to be inspiring and inviting although I am not sure if I’ll measure up. Right now I am not making high promises for regular content but I am going to try as I settle down here.
I have named my newsletter “While I was knitting”. It conveys that the primary focus is knitting. But we will also talk about other things that come into and go out of our daily focus while knitting goes on. My hope is that this newsletter become a place for us to hold meaningful conversations.
On other news, I published a collection of knitting patterns, last week.
