♥️
My inspiration for Mika Vest came from a fantasy novel - A Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna.
The story follows Mika Moon, a witch living in England who bends the rules of the secret society she belongs to, by posting witchcraft videos online. She assumes no one would take them seriously, but they end up altering her life completely. I found myself imagining what Mika might wear while filming those videos. And just like that, Mika Vest was born. ✨
I particularly love how vests keep the core warm while allowing for unrestricted arm movement. They provide the perfect amount of warmth without overheating the body for mixed weather conditions.
Mika Vest is slightly cropped and features a V-neck with an all-over textured design, making it a stylish yet practical addition to any wardrobe
The worsted weight Targhee yarn I used for this design is from Little Skien. My friend and knitting colleague Anne Vally dyes a beautiful range of wardrobe colors in her carefully tested and curated yarn bases and I absolutely loved working with this one. Subscribe to her heart warming newsletter
to enjoy lovely yarn, mindful crafting and slow life.I was incredibly lucky to have a skilled testing team for this one, including Anne herself. If you are looking to use her Targhee Worsted, she might have sweater quantities in her shop this coming week.
The pattern comes in 9 sizes with finished chest circumferences 33” - 65”.
I’ve used bamboo stitch in this vest. But I think the texture comes alive when juxtaposed next to the smooth double knit bands.
The armhole trim and button bands are double knit. The bottom hem is done using folded hem technique. If you are new to these, I’ve got you! :) I have detailed video tutorials for all these techniques. Some of my testers tried these for the first time too.
If you enjoy my posts, please share it with a friend who might like it too! 💙
I am grateful for each and every one of my testers who have given invaluable inputs on various aspects. It resulted in a pattern much more polished than what I began with. 💙
I love the contrast button band in Sanhita’s vest. I am tucking away the idea for a future project. :) Would you do a contrast button band in your sweaters?
I hope you enjoy the design as much as I did creating it and will knit a Mika Vest for yourself or a loved one. If you are not up for it right away, may I ask you to add the pattern to your Ravelry Favorites? That way you can get to it when you can and those little red hearts ♥️ help the pattern get seen. Thanks! 🥰
I will be back with my other regular updates next week.
Until next time,
Kavitha. ♡

Looks like a Keeper of a pattern. It will be a lot of new learning, but I will definitely add it to my favorites and check out the Kits available from Ann Valley too.
Truly lovely. Just wish I could crochet one
